Today is the first Monday in Berlin that has felt like the depths of autumn, if not the early beginning of the deeper winter cold. My 5 favourite things today consist of ideas to make autumn more interesting in terms of style and food. WARNING: I wouldn't recommend jumping into the sea like in the final photograph ... could make autumn more interesting, but could also result in a serious chill!

Anyone know who this photo is by? I couldn't find a source!

Bright Blue Mascara

blue masc
Blue mascara is my new obsession. While most of my friends are somewhat cynical about it, for dark to medium brown eyes, it is amazing! You can go for a more light coverage (upper two images) or for a completely thick and heavy coverage (bottom photo). I prefer the latter, with no other eye makeup.

Here are some good makes:

Food Chronicles: Home-made chocolate bars

The search for good confectionary continues. I wanted a mix of everything, dark, milk and white chocolate. But nothing was fulfilling my chocolate needs. So, I decided that if you want something, you have to do it yourself.

Here are my homemade chocolate bars. As easy as pie!

Ingredients:

400 grams of dark chocolate
400 grams of milk chocolate
100 grams white chocolate
Rich tea biscuits (or equivalent)

What you will need:
baking dish
double boiler (pan that can fit in another pan)

Step one. Place water into bottom pan and put on the stove on a medium heat.
Step two. Place dark chocolate in top pan and place top pan over bottom pan in water.
Step three. The chocolate should slowly melt, once fully melted pour into baking dish.
Step four. Crumble biscuits and place over dark chocolate.
Step five. Melt the milk chocolate in the same way, and place on top of biscuit layer.
Step six. Cling film the chocolate dish and leave in fridge for two hours at least.
Step seven. (after the two hours) Melt the white chocolate in the same way.
Step eight. Take a small amount of melted white chocolate on a spoon and shake accross top of milk chocolate layer, as decoration.
Step nine. Leave for another hour in fridge Step ten. cut into bars and EAT

Ink Love

"I wait for my protector" - Latin

I am not sure if this is deeply religious or just more general. Either way, I like it. Really nice script.

*Note: It is pure coincidence that both Ink Love's so far have been related to children's films. Last week... Toy Story, this week Harry Potter. Apparently, "Expecto Patronum" is the spell used by J.K Rowlings witches and wizards to summon their patronus. In Harry Potter's case... the deer?

Food Chronicles: Rustic Custard Creams

On Sunday, I decided that I missed custard creams far too much... and that I could not stand their absence anymore. Admittedly, the custard creams I made do not resemble the neat version you can buy in Tesco, in their yellow packaging, with their cute printed Custard Cream message on the top. However, it is safe to say, they tasted like them and they were delish. Thank God, my mum sent me a pack of Bird's Custard powder - key ingredient!

Ingredients

Biscuit

100g margarine/butter
100g flour
50g caster sugar
50g custard powder
few drops of vanilla essence

Filling
150g icing sugar
75g margarine/butter

How to:
  1. Mix sugar and margarine, then add in flour, custard powder and vanilla essence until a rollable dough is formed. Or use a food processor
  2. Preheat the oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6.
  3. Flour a surface and roll out dough to roughly 1/2 cm thickness. Then cut out shapes, ensuring there is a duplicate of each shape you cut.
  4. Place shapes on a baking tray covered in baking parchment (or greased and floured), ensuring that one of each pair is put on upside down (i.e. flipped over, rather than rotated). Place in oven for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove and cool on a wire rack.
  5. Blend the icing sugar and margarine, and then use to fill the custard creams once they are cool. Place a bit on the bottom (i.e. non-smooth side) of the first biscuit, then push the bottom of the first biscuit's pair onto this. Don't force together as otherwise the filling will just explode out the sides! Leave to set in a container or eat there and then.

Earblings

Ear Bling
1. £5.65 Forever21 2. £9.99 Zara 3. Vintage Chanel 1stdibs 4. $130 Angel Court (USA)

At the moment I am rather taken by the combination of gold and turquoise earrings. The perfect addition to a desperately plain outfit!

While the first two sets are from Zara and Forever 21 and are both available in the UK, the 3rd is vintage Chanel available froma dealer in the US and the final (my favourites!) are handmade by an amazing company called Angel Court, also in the US... I may email them and ask if they do delivery to UK or Europe. If I do, I will let you know the response!

Which is your favourite?

Good Girl Gone Bag

It is Friday and I feel like a sniffly mess. Correction: I am a sniffly mess. The above image couldn't be more symbolic of how little I wanted to leave bed today. So, thought I would make a colourful and delectable bag post. I want more bags.

Ink Love

A lot of beauty bloggers focus on make up and clothing and while I am clearly an advocate, I am also a big lover of tattoos. I don't necessarily want loads myself. I have one on my foot of a compass that I got when I was slightly tipsy in Thailand... would NOT encourage this behaviour. But I do love it.

I think tattoos, if done well, can be brilliant.

Here is my new feature -  Ink Love. I will just choose a picture of my favourite tattoo for the week.

So, I know it is pretty corny in many ways and comes from Toy Story, but I really like the first ever Ink Love. "To infinitity and beyond".

What do you think?
